Homemade hot chocolate is so comforting to drink as we watch the snowfall outside and the fireplace continues warming us inside.

I love to make my own hot chocolate mix because I love how much better it tastes than packet hot chocolate. It is rich and not too sweet.

This dairy-free hot cocoa is made with only 3 ingredients, including real sugar. A lot of recipes for hot chocolate mix use milk powder and powdered sugar. But I really wanted to only use organic and whole ingredients that I normally have on hand for this recipe.

Dairy-Free Hot Chocolate Mix Recipe

3-Ingredient Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix is super easy to make and super delicious to drink!

3 ingredient hot chocolate mix recipe ingredients on table.

Cocoa powder – Cocoa powder is the powder version of cocoa beans. It has a rich chocolate taste that is not too overwhelming. I’m not a huge chocolate fan so it’s perfect for my taste! You will want to use a good quality powder, I’ll link the one I love!

Sugar – I used 1 cup of cocoa powder and ½ cup of granulated cane sugar, and as a result, this hot chocolate mix is not super sweet, which is why I love it.  However, if you prefer a sweeter drink, I suggest you use a ¼ cup more sugar than the recipe calls for!

Salt – Every sweet drink needs a little salt to help balance it out!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is hot chocolate mix better with milk or water?

I prefer milk because it gives the hot chocolate a much richer and fuller flavor. If you are dairy-free feel free to use your favorite non-dairy milk!
