This apple cinnamon stovetop potpourri fills your home with the delightful scents of fall and the holidays! Crisp apple slices are simmered with warm fall spices like allspice, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and nutmeg, then sweetened with a splash of vanilla extract.

Fall time is my favorite season. It means my and my sisters’ birthdays are right around the corner and that the cooler weather is here. The crisp mornings and less hot days are a nice change from the scorching hot summer days I experienced my whole life in Texas and even now in Kansas. (Who knew that Kansas was almost as hot in the summer as Texas?).

Anyways as the days are getting shorter and cooler, we are spending more and more time inside. Naturally, we all want something to make our homes smell nice and to feel cozy.

Instead of reaching for fall-scented candles to make your home smell good, this homemade stovetop potpourri is a healthier alternative to paraffin-filled candles and artificial air fresheners.

Using quality organic, whole, and natural ingredients you can easily and naturally freshen your home with everyday ingredients you probably already have in your fridge and spice cabinet.

What you need to make this Fall Homemade Stovetop Potpourri

Apple cider stovetop potpourri ingredients on a table.

Sliced apples – Use 2 crisp apples like gala, pink lady, or honey crisp.

Star anise – Has a beautiful star shape and a very strong licorice kinda minty smell. I used 1 but you could use 2 if you like! Star anise and anise aren’t the same things. It should have a star shape.

Whole Cloves and allspice – Classic fall spices. They are warming and smell like freshly baked pie or warm apple cider!

Cinnamon sticks – I used 4 whole cinnamon sticks so this simmering pot really has that apple cider cinnamony smell.

Nutmeg – Just 1 – 2 pinches really give this simmering pot a nice fall holiday, baking smell. You can use preground or grab a Microplane and freshly grate your own for a stronger smell!

Vanilla extract – ¼ teaspoon gives this fall blend a heavenly smell!
