Apple filling

  • 4 cups Granny Smith apples, 5 - 6 medium apples sliced
  • 3/4 cup cane sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Pinch nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Brown sugar oat topping

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup quick-cooking oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar*
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons butter, melted

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F degrees.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add the sliced apples, cane sugar, all-purpose flour, salt, nutmeg, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, and lemon juice.
  3. Mix until the apples are coated with sugar, flour, and spices. Spread the apples evenly into a 9.5 in pie dish.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, add the all-purpose flour, quick-cooking oats, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix until everything is combined. Then add the melted butter. Mix until there aren’t any dry spots and you start to have oat crumbles.
  5. Top the apples with the brown sugar oat topping, spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 35 - 45 minutes, until the apples are soft and the oat topping is golden brown. Allow it to cool for 10 minutes, then serve with homemade vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!
