Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Homemade buffalo ranch tastes sooo much better than store-bought! Hot sauce and ranch is a match made in heaven. This spicy ranch dip is made by combining homemade ranch dressing with Frank’s hot sauce. The ranch dip is made with sour cream, mayo and tons of herbs like dried chives, parsley, dill weed and onion and garlic powder. So it tastes just like store-bought ranch but sooo much better!

This is great ranch sauce for wings. I paired it with my oven-baked ranch wings and it was chef’s kiss! I love ranch dressing served with these Fried Chicken Tenders Without Buttermilk or Fried Chicken Nuggets without Buttermilk. What can be better than crispy chicken and buffalo ranch? A vegetarian option would be to serve this dip with tofu buffalo wings, over these Smashed Potatoes with Cheese, these Air Fryer Potato Skins or enjoy with celery sticks and potato chips.

Buffalo Ranch Dressing Ingredients

  • Dry ranch seasoning mix – Ranch seasoning is made with dried chives, parsley, dill weed, onion flakes and onion and garlic powder. Use powdered garlic and onion not granulated for a stronger, savory ranch flavor.
  • Sour cream and mayo – Together, sour cream and mayo make up the creamy base of this homemade ranch dip. Use full-fat sour cream and mayonnaise for a rich and creamy dip. Use fat-free sour cream and mayo or Greek yogurt for a lighter option.
  • Hot sauce – I used Frank’s hot sauce. It’s not super spicy so add more if you like or use the extra spicy version from Frank’s!
  • Dippers – Serve this buffalo dipping sauce with baked or fried chicken wings, chicken tenders, chicken nuggets, or crispy tofu. Or use it as a salad dressing.

How to Make Buffalo Ranch Sauce

All ingredients, measurements, and instructions are in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

To a medium mixing bowl, stir together sour cream, mayo, buttermilk, and the dry ranch seasoning mix. Add hot sauce to taste.

Enjoy buffalo ranch sauce immediately with chicken wings or potato chips or store in a mason jar in the fridge until you’re ready to enjoy.

Tips and Tricks

If you are using my homemade ranch seasoning mix, use 1 ½ tablespoons of ranch mix.

Frank’s Hot sauce isn’t that spicy when mixed in with the ranch dressing so you can even add up to ⅓ cup of hot sauce or use a spicier variety of hot sauce.

You can make this recipe vegan if needed by just swapping out the dairy sour cream and mayo with your favorite dairy-free varieties.

Use garlic power and onion powder not granulated garlic and onion. The powdered kind will make your ranch dip taste more like ranch. You can use fresh herbs if you have them on hand for a brighter fresher herby flavor. Use 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, ½ teaspoon fresh dill weed and 1 tablespoon of fresh chives.
