Why This Recipe is So Good
- Citrus ginger shots are perfect for cold and flu season – Whether you are under the weather or just want something refreshing to kick start your day with, these citrus wellness shots are so easy to make and are packed with flavor. Ginger shots are so energizing and made with fresh ginger and tons of freshly squeezed citrus juice.
- Homemade ginger shots are more affordable than store-bought. Ginger, grapefruit, oranges, and lemons are so cheap. This recipe makes over 2 cups of juice shots, making it a much more affordable option compared to the premade ones from the health food store or grocery store.
- No juicer recipe – You don’t need a fancy juicer to make this wellness drink. Everything gets added to the blender and then strained. You can juice the grapefruit and oranges by hand or use a manual citrus juicer. This recipe takes about 15- 20 minutes from start to finish and you’ll be left with the most refreshing and zesty juice full of good-for-you ingredients!
Recipe Ingredients
- Ginger – Always try to use fresh, plump ginger. It should be firm with smooth skin, not wrinkled or dried out. Fresh ginger is zesty and spicy and pairs well with citrus juice.
- Grapefruit – It’s sweet and tart and soo delicious in these wellness shots. Just make sure to juice the grapefruit BEFORE adding it to the blender. The pith(the white part underneath the grapefruit skin) and the pulp can be VERY bitter, and it will make your juice shots bitter and sour. Make sure to juice your grapefruit using a citrus juicer, and then blend the juice with the rest of the ingredients.
- Oranges – Adds extra sweetness to the juice. Naval oranges or cara cara oranges are super sweet and delicious.
- Lemon – Ginger and lemon is the perfect match. I cut off the skin and then added the whole lemon to the blender.

Citrus Ginger Wellness Shots(Grapefuit and Ginger)
Equipment
- Cheesecloth or a nut milk bag
Ingredients
- 4 ounces fresh ginger root peeling optional, cut into 1 – 2 inch pieces, ½ cup heaping
- 1 cup grapefruit juice freshly squeezed / about 4 large pink grapefruits
- 3 small oranges peeled, Cara Cara, Naval or Blood oranges, or ½ cup freshly squeezed orange juice
- 1 large lemon peeled
Instructions
- Note: Make sure to juice your grapefruit using a citrus juicer or by hand. You don’t want to add whole(peeled) grapefruit to the blender; otherwise, it will make your juice VERY BITTER.
- To a blender, add ginger, grapefruit juice, oranges, and lemon.
- Blend until smooth.
- Strain juice through a fine mesh strainer. Line with cheesecloth or use a nut milk bag.
- Enjoy 1 – 2 ounce shots, or store the juice in a mason jar. Enjoy as is or add coconut water as desired.
Notes
How To Store/ Make Ahead
- Store in the refrigerator for 3 – 5 days. The longer the juice sits in the fridge the less flavor-packed it will taste.
- Freeze ginger shots into ice cubes to enjoy later for up to 2 months. Allow to thaw and enjoy as juice shots or add them to a glass of water or coconut water to make a wellness drink.
- Freeze leftover ginger pulp into an ice cube tray. Once frozen, store in a freezer-safe bag for up to 2 months.
Tips and Tricks
- Grapefruit: Substitute with 100% organic grapefruit juice.
- Oranges: Substitute with 100% organic orange juice. If you decide to blend the oranges whole(and peeled), the pith(the white part underneath the skin) can give the juice a slightly thicker consistency. To avoid this, juice oranges by hand or use a citrus juicer.
- Ginger: Use fresh ginger, it will give you the best flavor. Using a spoon to peel the ginger is easier than using a vegetable peeler or knife. Peeling is optional since we are straining the juice.
- Lemons: Use fresh lemons or freshly squeezed lemon juice, not the bottled kind.
- Save the leftover ginger pulp for smoothies or to make tea.
