Why This Recipe is So Good

Pickles and ranch are a match made in heaven. Add first, it might seem like a weird combination, but I find that pickle juice already makes homemade ranch dip taste more like store-bought ranch, so adding chopped pickles was a no-brainer. Tangy pickles only enhance the flavor of the ranch, and it’s sooo good, especially if you are a pickle lover.

Homemade ranch is sooo much better than bottled ranch dressing. It’s creamy and tangy and so full of flavor that you won’t go back to store-bought. Regular mayo and sour cream are combined with chopped dill pickles and a homemade ranch seasoning mix to make the best ranch pickle dip that you’ll want to eat by the spoonful.

What do I serve this dill pickle dip with? Aside from using it as a dip for chicken wings, potato chips, or French fries, this dill pickle ranch could be an incredible salad dressing, sauce for pasta salad, or used to top sandwiches or wraps. Or dip your fried pickles into it!

Dill Pickle Ranch Dressing Ingredients

Ingredients for dill ranch dressing on a table.
  • Dill pickles – the star of this creamy ranch dip. You use your favorite dill pickles, avoid sweet pickles or bread and butter pickles, because you really want the flavor of the dill to flavor this ranch dressing.
  • Dry ranch seasoning mix – This homemade ranch seasoning is made without buttermilk powder. It features pantry staples like onion and garlic powder, and parsley. Dried dill weed and chives add an extra ranchy flavor, and I love adding dried onion flakes too!
  • Sour cream and mayo – Together, tangy sour cream and creamy mayo make up the base of this homemade ranch dip.
  • Dippers – serve this dill pickle ranch with potato chips, potato wedges, or French fries, fried chicken tenders recipe without buttermilk, or a juicy burger!

Tips and Tricks

  • If you are using my homemade ranch seasoning mix, use 1 ½ tablespoons of ranch mix.
  • Buttermilk – It adds an additional creaminess and tangy flavor to the ranch dip. It also thins the ranch dip out to a pourable consistency. You can swap it out for regular milk or your favorite dairy-free milk. I used oat milk (and extra lemon juice or pickle juice), and it was perfect.
  • Mayo and sour cream – I used full-fat sour cream and mayo. Opt for a fat-free sour cream and mayo or use Greek Yogurt for a lighter option.
  • Make this recipe vegan by swapping out the dairy sour cream and mayo with your favorite dairy-free varieties.
  • Garlic powder and onion powder will give your ranch dip the best savory ranch flavor. I love granulated spices, but use the powdered kind for this recipe!
  • Swap out the dried herbs for fresh or a brighter flavor. Use 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, ¼ – ½ teaspoon fresh dill weed(can omit, if you want, since we are adding dill pickles), and 1 tablespoon of fresh chives.
