Why This Recipe is So Good

This parmesan ranch dip is made from scratch, but it’s super simple and easy to make when you are craving ranch dip, ranch dressing or need something to serve for game day appetizers. The homemade ranch seasoning mix is made with a few dried herbs, onion powder, and garlic powder. The creamy ranch base is made up of mayo and sour cream. Pickle juice makes a world of difference in the taste, so it’s an ingredient that you shouldn’t leave out!

What do I serve this garlic parmesan ranch dip with? Use it as a sauce for wings, serve with salty potato chips, or drizzle over these Air Fryer Potato Skins or Smashed Potatoes with Cheese.

Recipe Ingredients

Ingredients for garlic parmesan ranch dressing are arranged on a cutting board.
  • Garlic – I love the flavor of raw garlic in this Parmesan ranch dressing. It’s not overwhelming, but it has just enough flavor to pair really nicely with the Parmesan cheese and the creamy ranch sauce. Use roasted garlic if you prefer(steps to do this in the notes section of the recipe card), or simply leave it out.
  • Grated parmesan cheese – Use good quality parmesan cheese, and if possible, freshly grate it with a cheese grater or microplane. It will have a much better flavor in this ranch dip, and it won’t be coated in anti-caking agents like the pre-grated kind.
  • Ranch seasoning mix – This is a homemade ranch seasoning blend of dried parsley, dill weed, chives, onion flakes, onion and garlic powder, and ground black pepper.
  • Pickle juice – This might seem like a weird ingredient, but trust me, it really makes this homemade ranch dressing taste like ranch dip. Use dill pickles not sweet or bread and butter pickles. I love this brand.

Tips and Tricks

  • Garlic – You can leave the garlic out or use roasted garlic, if you don’t love the taste of raw garlic. To roast garlic: cut the top off a head of garlic(about ½ inch off the top), drizzle with a bit of olive oil and a pinch of salt. Wrap it up (cut side up) tightly in aluminum foil. Roast garlic in a baking dish at 400 degrees for 30 minutes or until the garlic is browned and soft. Allow it to cool slightly, then add as much roasted garlic to this ranch dip as you like.
  • If you are using my homemade ranch seasoning mix, use 1 ½ tablespoons of ranch mix.
  • Make it vegan: just swap out the dairy sour cream and mayo with your favorite dairy-free and vegan varieties.
  • Use garlic powder and onion powder, not granulated garlic and onion. The powdered kind will make your ranch dip taste more like ranch.
  • You can use fresh herbs if you have them on hand for a brighter fresher herby flavor. Use 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, ¼ – ½ teaspoon fresh dill weed and 1 tablespoon of fresh chives.
