Why This Recipe is So Good
- No dried buttermilk powder. This ranch seasoning mix is dairy-free and doesn’t contain any dried buttermilk powder. It will last longer in your spice cabinet, and it’s perfect if you are dairy-free or just can’t find buttermilk powder in the store.
- It tastes just like the ranch dressing packets from the store but better! Store-bought ranch seasoning is delicious but it contains many unnecessary artificial ingredients and additives. I love making homemade seasoning mixes (like this breakfast sausage seasoning mix) because they are made without MSG, artificial flavors, gums, and thickeners. This one is also gluten-free and salt-free. Homemade ranch seasoning is full of natural flavors from real ingredients like dried onion flakes, onion and garlic powder and tons of dried dill, parsley and chives.
- If you are an avid ranch lover, then you *need* to keep a jar of this seasoning mix on hand whenever you are ready to make ranch dressing or ranch dip. It can also be used to flavor popcorn, chicken or veggies. Add a little bit of this dry ranch mix to mayo and sour cream with milk or buttermilk to make the best homemade ranch salad dressing. It’s so creamy and delicious.
Recipe Ingredients
Herbs – dried dill weed, dried parsley, and dried chives. These herbs really give ranch seasoning the flavor of ranch. If you don’t want the herbs to be too big, use a mortar and pestle or a spice grinder to grind them into a powder.
Onion flakes, granulated onion, and garlic. You can use garlic powder and onion powder instead if you like. This adds a savory flavor to the ranch seasoning. Onion flakes add additional onion flavor and texture to the ranch dressing.
Black pepper – freshly ground. This seasoning mix is salt-free, so add salt to taste whenever you make salad dressing or ranch dip.

How To Store/ Make Ahead
Store in a cool, dry place for up to 3 months.Tips and Tricks
- Don’t use old dried herbs and spices if they are older than 6 months. In most cases, they might be flavorless, which will impact the flavor of your ranch dressing/ dip.
- If you don’t want the herbs to be too big, use a mortar and pestle or an electric spice grinder to grind them into a powder before combining with the rest of the ingredients.
