Why This Recipe is So Good

  • A London fog drink is an Earl Grey tea latte made with milk flavored with vanilla and sugar. It’s usually served warm with foamed milk, but this iced version is served cold and sweetened with a homemade lavender syrup. The name of this drink comes from when the milk is added to the hot tea, it looks like the foggy skies in London.
  • An iced London Fog always hits the spot, and the addition of lavender makes it just that much better. It’s the perfect afternoon caffeine boost during busy days, and this lavender London fog takes just a few minutes to make.
  • If you don’t have time to make a lavender syrup, no worries, simply steep the lavender buds with the tea then sweeten with cane sugar or honey.

Earl Grey tea – the best London Fog latte starts with good quality tea. Earl Grey tea is a strong black tea flavored with bergamot oil. Look for ones that have pure bergamot oil, not any natural flavoring, because those tend to have a very artificial taste. This is the brand of tea I love to use.

Oat milk – this lavender London fog recipe is made with oat milk, so it’s completely dairy-free. I used a barista blend oat milk because it’s so rich and creamy and similar to dairy milk. You can swap it out for your favorite milk of choice.

Lavender – culinary-grade lavender buds are used to make a homemade lavender syrup. You can also steep the lavender with the Earl Grey tea if you don’t have time to make a simple syrup.

Sugar – used to make the lavender simple syrup. Can swap for honey if you like.

Frequently Asked Questions  —

Is an Earl Grey latte the same as a London Fog?

They are very similar. A earl grey tea latte is made by steeping the tea with water and milk and sweetening it with sugar or honey. A London fog will usually include vanilla syrup or vanilla extract (many versions will also have lavender). The vanilla really helps to mellow out the citrus bergamot flavor in the Earl Grey tea.

Could I use regular black tea?

You could, but your drink won’t taste like an London fog. This drink has a distinctive citrusy notes (coming from the addition of bergamot oil) that regular black tea doesn’t have. Look for a high quality Earl Grey tea and it will be perfect for this recipe.

What does an iced lavender London Fog taste like?

It tastes like a sweet floral tea latte. Bergamot oil is citrusy, kinda like orange and grapefruit and the lavender adds a light floral note.
