I have been cooking since I was 8 years old and over the years I have accumulated different appliances/ tools and I have figured out what I need to cook delicious and healthy meals.
I created this list of kitchen appliances that I feel helps me to create delicious meals and I hope they will help you as well!
While some of these appliances and tools may not be “essentials” they are all things that I have and love to use. They are tools that help to make cooking easier and more enjoyable.

Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer
A Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer is a nice tool to have if you like to cook or bake a lot. Having the dough hook is especially helpful if you love to make homemade bread and don’t want to knead the dough for 10 minutes straight. The whisk attachment can be used to make meringues, whipped cream, or to shred chicken. And the paddle attachment can be used for mixing cake batter or cookie dough.
Ninja Food Processor
I love to use my food processor to blend soups, to cut the butter into the flour for biscuits or pie crust dough, or to make pasta dough. I also use it to pulse cubed chicken breast into ground chicken.
Ninja Bullet
The Ninja bullet is excellent for blending soups and smoothies and is easy to use.
Kitchen scale
I love having a kitchen scale for when I am making sourdough bread. The ingredients are usually only listed in grams, so it’s helpful when measuring everything out.
Electric Kettle
Having an Electric Kettle is great since I love to drink tea and I don’t like using the microwave. It heats the water so fast, it’s so amazing! I also use the kettle when I am cooking oatmeal. Sometimes I don’t measure the water properly and I need more hot water, so the electric kettle works out great!
Knife and Knife sharpener
A dull knife can make cooking more difficult than it needs to be. A sharp knife makes everything so much better. I like to use a Knife Sharper to sharpen my knives about once a month so that they are always working at their prime!
Wooden Rolling Pin
A rolling pin is a kitchen essential. I love to make homemade pasta, but I don’t have a pasta roller, so having a rolling pin helps to much! You can roll out pasta dough, pie crust, etc very easily!
Kitchen Scissors
We got these kitchen scissors and a small pairing knife set as a gift several years ago. I didn’t know what I would use kitchen scissors for. However, I have since found that it is nice to have separate scissors for your food when you don’t want to use your regular scissors. I use mine to cut chicken or fish into little pieces or to cut kitchen twine for meats, etc. They are really nice to have in your kitchen when you need them.
Silicon Chopping Mats
I love Silicon Chopping Mats better than the wooden chopping boards because you can put the silicon ones in the dishwasher when they are dirty. I have five different colors and use them for all my chopping needs. The red one I use exclusively for meat, which I like so I don’t have any cross-contamination.
Once I’m finished, I throw them right into the dishwasher. The only thing I found when using them is that the sides are starting to curl up after a while, but other than that they are great!
Cast Iron Skillet
My family bought this cast iron skillet set a few years ago, and it is pretty much the only skillet I use when cooking. They are my go-to kitchen essential for stovetop cooking! The skillet comes seasoned – meaning that the cast iron is not exposed and rough, which provides a semi-nonstick surface. I find that the food still sticks a bit, but as I used the cast iron skillet more and more they became more non-stick and easier to use. I love cooking with them better than my stainless steel skillets.
Stainless Steel Tongs
I love using Stainless Steel Tongs when I am grilling, cooking fried chicken, or flipping oven-baked potatoes.
Measuring Cups and Spoons
A good set of Measuring Cups and Spoons just makes your life easier! I love these because you can throw them into the dishwasher when they get dirty.
Baking Sheets with Wire Racks
Stainless steel baking sheets can be easily cleaned in the dishwasher and they come with wire racks that are great for cooling homemade bread, and cookies, or it can be used for cooking oven-fried chicken.
Pyrex 9 x 13 Baking Pans
These glass 9 x 13 baking pans have a higher lip than the sheet pans and are great for cooking roasts, oven-roasted potatoes, and baking bread.
Pyrex Glass Bowl with Lid
My family loves to use this cooking bowl for cooking beef stew or roasted chicken. All the juices from the meat do not escape as easily with the lid on, making it ideal for cooking stews.
Pyrex Mixing Bowls
A good mixing bowl is helpful for almost any recipe and I love these pyrex ones!
Pyrex Glass Pie Pan
I love to use a glass pie pan for making a chicken pot pie, apple pie, and apple crisps or just when I want to quickly reheat leftovers!
Food storage with lids
Speaking up leftovers, I love to use these glass storage containers for storing leftovers in the refrigerator. They come with a lid, which helps to keep the food fresh.
Pepper Grinder
I love freshly ground black pepper, I find that it has a better flavor than pre-ground black pepper. I love this pepper grinder because it’s so easy to use and it grinds a lot of pepper at once!
You can buy the black peppercorns in bulk and just refill the pepper grinder container.
Spice Rack
If you cook with a lot of spices and seasonings you might have a lot of bulk seasonings or seasoning containers overflowing in your cabinet.
We bought this spice rack 2 years ago and it has helped so much with seasoning organization. It comes with stickers for the seasonings’ names and little glass jars where you can empty your bulk seasoning into it. I have the rack sitting on my counter and any extras or different spices in my cabinet. This allows me to have so much more room in my cabinet and I can see what seasonings I actually have, causing me to actually use what I have!
I have a post all about my favorite spices and seasonings! If you want to know what seasonings are my absolutely favorite, check out this post!
