What is Tahini Paste?
Tahini paste or sesame seed paste is a Middle Eastern condiment that is made by grinding toasted hulled sesame seeds. It is used in hummus, falafel, baba ganoush, and many other dishes from the Middle East and North Africa.
You can find tahini paste in the condiment aisle or in the cultural foods section of your local store. You can also buy it here!
What Can You Serve This Lemon Garlic Tahini Sauce with?
You can serve this tahini sauce over a big garden salad.
My sister’s physical therapist gave us a few pickling cucumbers that he grew in his garden. I used one to meal prep a delicious garden salad. This salad has romaine lettuce, cucumbers, chopped tomatoes, and red onions. This tahini dressing is one of my favorite go-to salad dressings.
Grain bowls are another way to use this delicious tahini sauce.
Grain bowls are easy to make and are a great dish to meal prep. You can cook a pot of farro (a hearty whole grain), and add chopped cucumbers and tomatoes, sliced red onions, and chopped marinated olives. Add fresh or dried thyme and oregano, minced garlic, a splash of olive oil, salt, and pepper. Serve with a few tablespoons of this lemon garlic tahini sauce.
Tips
- The Sauce Might Look Broken At First: When you first start mixing the tahini sauce, it will look like it is not mixing together. This is normal. Keep mixing. It will take a second of mixing for the oil in the tahini paste and the water and lemon juice that we added to become a smooth sauce.
- Tahini Sauce Will Seize Up Once It Gets Cold: The tahini sauce can last in the refrigerator for a few weeks, but the tahini sauce will seize up once it gets cold. In order to get the tahini sauce back to a pourable sauce, just add a tiny bit of water or lemon juice. Mix it together and you are good to go!
