Why This Recipe is So Good

This blueberry froyo is every blueberry lover’s dream! It tastes like blueberry ice cream, but it’s made with good-for-you ingredients like fresh or frozen blueberries, Greek yogurt or plain yogurt, and cane sugar. No fillers, thickeners, or other weird ingredients.

Ninja Creami blueberry frozen yogurt is thick and scoopable but still creamy and smooth. Berry frozen yogurt can be a little tricky because some berries have more water in them than others, and then there’s the yogurt. If you are using regular yogurt instead of Greek yogurt, the extra water in the yogurt can quickly turn into ice. For this recipe, the blueberries are mashed with sugar to soften them, and that extra sugar is vital to combat the water in the yogurt, ensuring we always have the perfect, non-icy scoop of frozen yogurt.

  • Blueberries – You can use fresh or frozen regular blueberries or wild blueberries. Regular blueberries are larger and sweeter, while wild blueberries are smaller and more tart. Either way, the berries are mashed in the pint container with sugar, then combined with the yogurt.
  • Yogurt – Plain or vanilla yogurt is my favorite to use to make frozen yogurt. If you use enough sugar, it will always be creamy and scoopable. Greek yogurt is a great option if you are trying to hit your protein goals or want to use less sugar.
  • Sugar – Blueberries can be very juicy, so using enough sugar is important so you don’t end up with an icy blueberry frozen dessert.

How to Make Blueberry Frozen Yogurt Ninja Creami

All ingredients, measurements, and instructions are in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

Add blueberries and sugar into the Ninja Creami pint container. Mash the blueberries with a fork or potato masher until they are juicy and have broken down. Then stir in the yogurt until combined. Pour yogurt mixture into the Ninja Creami pint container, making sure it doesn’t go over the max fill line.

Top pint container with a lid, then freeze on a level surface for 22 – 24 hours until completely frozen solid.

The next day, remove the lid, place the container into the Ninja Creami outer bowl, then insert it into the Ninja Creami ice cream machine. Blend on the “LITE ICE CREAM” setting and allow it to run through the cycle. It may look a little crumbly at first, try smoothing it out with a spoon, if it isn’t smooth, respin as needed with a small scoop of yogurt or splash of milk until smooth and creamy.

Scoop and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 6 tablespoons cane sugar or white granulated sugar
  • 1 cup plain yogurt ¾ cup Greek yogurt or 1 cup vanilla yogurt with 4 tablespoons of sugar.

Instructions

  • I like to mash my blueberries in the pint container with the sugar using a potato masher so I don’t have to dirty up my blender, but you could always blend all the ingredients in a blender, then pour the mixture into a pint container.
  • Add 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries and 6 tablespoons cane sugar into the Ninja Creami pint container. Mash the blueberries with a potato masher until they are juicy and have broken down. (If using frozen berries, it might take a little bit of time for the berries to soften enough to mash.)
  • Next, stir in 1 cup plain yogurt until combined. Pour yogurt mixture into the Ninja Creami pint container, making sure it doesn’t go over the max fill line.
  • Top pint container with a lid, then freeze on a level surface for 22 – 24 hours until completely frozen solid.
  • The next day, remove the lid, place the container into the Ninja Creami outer bowl, then insert into the Ninja Creami ice cream machine. Blend on the “LITE ICE CREAM” setting and allow it to run through the cycle. It may look a little crumbly at first, try smoothing it out with a spoon, if it isn’t smooth, respin as needed with a small scoop of yogurt or splash of milk until smooth and creamy.
  • Scoop and enjoy!

Notes

How To Store/ Make Ahead

  • If you plan to respin your leftover hard frozen yogurt, use a spoon to level it out before refreezing so it doesn’t damage the blades of the Ninja Creami Machine.
  • If your leftover frozen yogurt is too hard, allow it to sit at room temperature for 5 – 10 minutes before enjoying. Or you can “RESPIN” it for a softer consistency. Make sure the frozen yogurt is level before respinning in the machine.

Tips and Tricks

  • Ninja Creami recipes can sometimes look crumbly right after blending. Usually, you can smooth it out with a spoon, and it will be smooth and creamy. If it’s still crumbly, add a small scoop of yogurt or milk to the mixture, then “RESPIN” it until it reaches a smooth and creamy consistency.
  • Yogurt: This recipe uses regular unstrained yogurt, which contains a high amount of water, so more sugar is needed for a soft and smooth frozen yogurt consistency. Greek yogurt is strained, so your frozen yogurt will be creamy regardless, but since it’s so sour, more sugar is needed for a sweet treat. Taste your yogurt mixture before freezing to make sure it tastes just the way you want.
