Why This Recipe is So Good

  • It’s your favorite matcha latte dressed up for fall! I love matcha with a passion and the addition of pumpkin spice mix is the perfect way to enjoy my favorite matcha lattes during the warmer months. You can enjoy it warm or over ice – both methods are provided below and in the recipe card.
  • It takes 7 minutes to prepare. Whether you enjoy it iced or warm this pumpkin spice matcha latte is so super simple to make using only 4 ingredients – matcha green tea powder, pumpkin spice mix, milk, and sugar.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Matcha – Matcha is made when young green tea leaves are shaded just before picking to increase their vibrant green color. From here, the leaves are then dried and ground into a fine powder. Use ceremonial-grade matcha powder instead of culinary-grade for a smooth and delicate matcha flavor. Culinary grade can sometimes taste bitter.
  • Pumpkin pie spice – Also called pumpkin spice mix. This is a combination of warm spices commonly used to make pumpkin pie like ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground cloves, and ground ginger. Ground allspice is sometimes used as well. You can make your own or use a store-bought mix.
  • Milk – I used whole dairy milk, but it can be substituted for your favorite non-dairy variety like unsweetened almond milk or oat milk.
  • Sugar – Just a little bit of granulated sugar is used for sweetness. This matcha latte is lightly sweetened so feel free to increase to sugar to taste. Substitute with stevia, maple syrup or honey.
  • Water – Used to whisk the matcha powder together to avoid clumping in the milk.
  • Vanilla – Optional! Gives the latte a richer flavor.

Notes

Tips and Tricks

  • Matcha: Ceremonial-grade matcha has a subtle grassy and earthy flavor. It’s excellent for lattes and is better tasting than culinary-grade matcha which can be bitter with a stronger grassy flavor. However, if you want to use culinary grade this brand is a great option, it isn’t bitter and has a wonderful flavor!
  • Whisk matcha with water before combining with milk: Whisking your matcha powder with 1-2 tablespoons of water will keep it from clumping when combined with the milk.
  • Make it dairy-free: Use coconut milk, almond milk, or oat milk instead of dairy milk.
  • Pumpkin: Feel free to add 1 – 2 tablespoons of 100% pure pumpkin puree(not pumpkin pie filling) to your latte to increase the fall and pumpkin flavors.
  • Make it refined-sugar-free: Use an all-natural sweetener like maple syrup, honey, or stevia instead of granulated sugar.
