Why This Recipe is So Good

  • This is the best and easiest smoked salmon Caesar salad recipe! It’s your favorite Caesar salad topped with smoky and flavorful smoked salmon. The dressing is creamy and flavorful, the lettuce and veggies crisp and the salmon makes this salad a meal in itself. Serve with Hard Boiled Eggs, your favorite soup or chowder, or pasta dish to make it even more filling.
  • It’s easy to meal prep. From start to finish this smoked salmon salad takes 20 minutes to prepare and the leftover dressing can be enjoyed throughout the week for easy meals.
  • Homemade Caesar salad dressing is made without anchovies. Minced garlic, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce step in to recreate the same umami deliciousness that we all love. The dressing takes 10 minutes to make and it tastes sooo much better than store-bought.

Recipe Ingredients

Smoked Salmon Salad ingredients infographic.
  • Smoked salmon – Hot smoked or cold smoked salmon. Hot smoked has the texture of cooked flakey salmon and cold smoked is softer and what is used for sushi. Whichever one you want to use is up to personal preference.
  • Romaine lettuce – It’s crunchy and fresh and perfect for this recipe. Green leaf lettuce can be a little too soft and will wilt when dressed with the salad dressing. Use 1 large or 2 small heads of romaine lettuce.
  • Caesar salad dressing ingredients – Mayo, fresh garlic, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice and Dijon mustard.
  • Parmesan cheese – Use the best quality parmesan cheese you can and grate it yourself. Pre-shredded cheeses usually contain anti-caking agents and aren’t as flavorful as freshly grated cheese.
  • Optional – Tomatoes, red onions, croutons, or diced cucumbers. Traditional caesar salads don’t include additional vegetables but I like to add something extra to liken it up.

Notes

How To Store/ Make Ahead

  • Store Caesar salad dressing for up to 1 week in an air-tight container.
  • Add dressing right before serving to prevent soggy lettuce.

Tips and Tricks

  • Salmon: Enjoy with cold smoked or hot smoked salmon, it is just a matter of preference.
  • Optional add-ins: Thinly sliced red onions, chopped or sliced cherry/ grape or Roma tomatoes, croutons, sliced avocado, or chopped cucumbers.
  • Make it egg-free – Use a vegan mayonnaise.
  • Make it dairy-free – Use vegan parmesan cheese or simply leave it out.
  • Garlic – Don’t substitute fresh garlic with granulated garlic or garlic powder. The flavor won’t be the same. You really want the strong garlicky flavor from fresh garlic since this is an anchovy-free Caesar salad dressing recipe.
