Line a 9x13 pan with parchment paper, so the rice krispie cereal mixture doesn’t stick to the pan. Set aside.
In a large saucepan or pot melt the butter. When the butter is almost completely melted add in the marshmallows. Stir constantly for 5 - 7 minutes until the marshmallows are almost completely melted. There should be some marshmallow chunks.
Remove the pan from the heat then stir in the vanilla extract and salt. Immediately add in the rice krispie cereal and stir until the cereal is coated in the melted marshmallow mixture. Add ¼ cup more marshmallows to the mixture then pour it into the prepared baking pan.
Gently press down the mixture as evenly as you can then allow the rice krispie treats to cool completely before cutting. 30 minutes - 1 hour.
Once cool, cut the rice krispie treats into squares and enjoy!
