My homemade spaghetti sauce with bison is a family favorite. This rich tomato-based meat sauce is made with ground bison instead of beef and it's filled with flavorful spices and chunky tomatoes. It's a comforting dinner served over tender spaghetti or linguine noodles and freshly torn basil.
Heat a skillet on medium heat with vegetable oil. Saute chopped onions for 3 - 5 minutes, until it is translucent and starts to brown.
Add the ground bison or beef with the seasonings - dried oregano, rosemary, thyme, cayenne pepper, ground paprika, all-purpose seasoning, salt, and ground black pepper. Mix to combine.
Cook the meat until it is well browned, about 10 - 12 minutes.
Add in the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, 30 seconds to 1 minute. Then add in a can of tomato sauce. Cook covered for 1 - 2 minutes to get rid of the bitter taste canned tomato sauce can have. Add chicken broth/ water and chopped tomatoes.
Cook meat sauce at a low simmer for 30 minutes. Boil the water and cook the pasta according to package instructions.
Serve meat sauce over pasta with freshly torn basil. Enjoy!
