Recipe Ingredients

Overhead image of bread, cheese, tomato sauce, and pepperoni on a table.

Soft sandwich bread – use the bread of your choice. For this recipe, I used homemade Challah bread cut into thick-ish slices.

Pizza sauce – really you can use whatever type of sauce you like. Pizza sauce, marinara sauce, plain tomato sauce, or jarred chunky sauce. Use pesto sauce instead or do a mix of the two!

Cheese – shredded mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese or get fancy with it and use a mix of cheeses like parmesan cheese, provolone, or havarti.

Pepperoni (optional) – I used turkey pepperoni cut in half.

Pro Tips

Toast the bread first otherwise the bread will soak up too much of the sauce and become soggy.

Try not to overly toast the bread otherwise, it will be too crunchy after the cheese has melted. After you add the ingredients your bread will continue to toast and cook in the oven.

If you are adding veggies to your pizza toasts, make sure to thinly slice them or lightly saute them so they won’t be crunchy or raw-tasting.

Try not to use too much sauce or it will make your bread soggy.

Add more cheese and/or sauce depending on your liking.

Leave the toppings off to make plain cheese toast or add fresh or dried herbs for a different flavor. If using fresh herbs make sure to add them under the cheese so they don’t dry out and burn in the oven.
