The sweet smells of cinnamon, apple, and cranberry filling the house are so comforting as the weather slowly starts to turn bitterly cold outside.

Why should you make a Stovetop Potpourri?

All my life, I have been very sensitive to smells, especially artificial smells. Candles, perfumes, even essential oils, have always given me a bad headache.

I love to make this stovetop potpourri because it’s not made with any synthetic chemicals or fragrances.

All the ingredients are natural and whole foods, and the smell is not too strong. Strong enough to make your home smelling amazing but not overpowering.

If you are like me and are sensitive to candles and artificial fragrances, try this winter stovetop potpourri!

What is in a Stovetop Potpourri?

Ingredients needed for the stovetop potpourri. - The Midwest Kitchen Blog

Apple – I used half of a gala apple cut horizontally. I think it looks nice to see the star pattern on the inside of the apple.

Cranberries – Fresh cranberries are in season this time of year, so use them up!

Normally I’ll use organic cranberries that I didn’t get around to using for 5-Ingredient Cranberry Sauce or apple cranberry pie so that they don’t go to waste!

Cinnamon sticks – A couple of whole cinnamon sticks are perfect to use. They look so pretty and smell heavenly!

Cloves – A few whole cloves add the autumn/winter smell that holiday baking is known for!

Water – I start with 3 – 4 cups of water, then add more if the potpourri is starting to run out of water.

You can let it simmer for several hours, just make sure to check on the potpourri because it could burn if it runs out of water!
