How to Make 3 Different Hot Chocolate Recipes

Hot chocolate ingredients on a table.

These three variations all have the same base of warm milk, my Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix, and then topped with homemade whipped cream. You can use different add-ins and toppings to create three amazing hot chocolates!

Classic Hot Chocolate

Hot chocolate with whipped cream and hot chocolate shavings.

You can’t go wrong with a classic hot chocolate. You can sprinkle a few semi-sweet chocolate chips over the whipped cream to create an even more chocolatey experience.

Peppermint Hot Chocolate

Peppermint hot cocoa.

This is a fun wintery hot cocoa recipe. I love how it has a hint of peppermint flavor but it’s not overpowering.

Add a few drops of organic peppermint essential oil to the warm milk, then top with crushed candy cane pieces.

I love to put peppermint essential oil in my morning tea. My family and I have been taking peppermint essential oil for years now and love it.

If you are new to essential oils or don’t want to ingest them, you can also use peppermint extract or melt the crushed candy cane in warm milk.

Ground Cinnamon and Cardamon Hot Chocolate

Cardamom hot chocolate

You might already know from my favorite seasonings post that I love to mix ground cinnamon and ground cardamom together, and my hot cocoa is no exception!

If you haven’t had ground cardamom before it’s a Middle Eastern spice and it has an intense flowery taste that is used in both savory and sweet dishes. I love pairing it with ground cinnamon, it’s so fun and delicious!

Sprinkle a pinch of each over the top of your whipped cream and you are done! Enjoy!
