What is the ninja creami machine and how do you use it?

If you’ve been on TikTok over the last few years you would have probably seen this device go viral. It’s kinda like a mix between a blender and an ice cream machine.

You start by blending your ice cream or sorbet base until smooth using a blender for the sorbet or a bowl and whisk for the ice cream bases.

Next, you pour it into the pint containers to freeze for at least 24 hours. This is important because when the machine blends the base, it needs to be completely frozen solid in order for the machine to “shave” the mixture into a smooth and creamy frozen dessert.

The following day you can blend your frozen dessert base in the ninja creami machine by pressing either the ICE CREAM or SORBET buttons. It blends the base at a very high speed using Ninja’s Creamify technology to turn it into an incredibly smooth blended frozen dessert.

The ice cream tastes like it was churned in a traditional ice cream machine and your sorbet isn’t icy at all! This was definitely something I was worried about because you are basically freezing a smoothie, but the sorbet has a very soft and creamy texture that is really incredible.

After blending you can add the mix-ins of your choice for a different and delicious flavor by pressing the MIXIN button.

Why You’ll Love It

The thing we love about making ninja creami desserts is that you can make a good-for-you treat using natural and whole ingredients. There aren’t any dyes, artificial sugars, colors, or other ingredients that you might not want to consume in it.

Most of these recipes are made with 3 – 7 ingredients. The sorbet recipes are made with fresh or frozen fruit, lemon juice, and sugar, and the ice cream recipes with milk, cream, sugar, cream cheese, and some sort of add-ins like cocoa powder, canned pumpkin, or Oreo cookies.

All of these Ninja Creami recipes are incredibly simple to make and they are great to enjoy all year round! During the summertime when you want to cool off or during the winter when you are craving a sweet treat even though it’s cold out! Either way, they will soon be your family’s favorite treats!

Tips and Tricks

  • The ninja creami ice cream machine isn’t a blender so you must blend your ingredients until smooth before freezing your base and processing it in the machine. Frozen fruits need to be thawed for at least 30 minutes and then blended in a blender. If you are using canned fruit in syrup you don’t have to do this step because they are already soft enough.
  • If your ice cream or sorbet looks a little bit dry and crumbly after processing add 1 – 2 tablespoons of milk, heavy cream or fruit juice then process it again through the “RESPIN” function. Remix until it reaches your desired level of creaminess.

Frequently asked questions

Do I really have to wait 24 hours for the Ninja Creami?

The instructions recommend that you wait at least 24 hours for the base to be completely frozen before processing. However, after using the machine for several months I have found that you can get away with a slightly shorter amount of time like 20 – 22 hours. The most important thing is to make sure the dessert base is completely frozen before processing otherwise you’ll risk ruining your machine and possibly voiding your warranty.

Can I just put frozen fruit in the Ninja Creami?

No, any frozen fruit used must be thawed and blended before processing in the ninja creami. Chunks of frozen hard fruit may potentially damage the blades of the machine.

What all can the Ninja Creami do?

It can make regular and lite ice creams, gelatos, sorbets, milkshakes and smoothie bowls.

What is the difference between a Ninja Creami and a blender?

A blender has sharp blades that can be used to blend most foods into a smooth consistency. The Ninja Creami doesn’t have sharp blades and you have to pre-blend and freeze the mixture beforehand. Instead, it spins very fast and “shaves” the frozen dessert until it is smooth and creamy.
